Summer Sun and June Deals

Terri

Hello my dearest friends! We are in a heatwave, as perfectly sticky as you might imagine summer in the UK to be, and so I am sheltering (read: sweltering) in my kitchen all day every day as it’s the coolest room in the house.

My dog, naturally, still believes she should be walked without fail. Twice a day. I’ve tried telling her that she is black and the sun is hot, but what can you do?

With all that said and done, I’m having a lovely time back in England. And I have two (2) promos for you! June Historical Romance in Kindle Unlimited has a bunch of amazing books in KU, including two of my own! And the Steamy Historical Romance Books promo has some fab STEAMY reads. Don’t miss out on these great collections of books.!

Writing Update

I’m now 55k words into Oliver’s book! This feels like a MASSIVE achievement, because honestly his book has been so, so difficult for me to write. I’m not entirely sure why. Sometimes a book just HAPPENS and it’s a dream, and I feel like a conduit to my characters. Just a vessel by which they tell their own stories. Other times, it’s as though I’m having to bully their stories out of them.

But I’m getting there. One word at a time. And there have recently, over the past couple of weeks, been some great developments. Mostly in the bedroom. Turns out, writing sex is a great way to figure out a couple’s dynamics. Who knew.

Here’s a short excerpt for any of you not following me on social media:

“Emily,” he said on a rasp. “May I touch you?”

She considered his words, and his hands clenched into fists at the silence. But still she waited until she was sure of her answer. “Not yet.”

His frustrated groan came with the edge of a laugh. “Cruelty incarnate.”

“Am I?” She placed her palm against his thigh, and saw the way his muscles rippled all the way up his body. “Hands above your head.”

He made no objection, raising them until his fingers locked around the metal bars of the headboard. “Is this to your liking?” he asked, and she smiled, though he could not see—that smile was for her and her alone.

“Yes,” she said, and moved, straddling his thighs. He released a long, sharp huff of air. Almost a sigh, but not quite. A gasp, an exclamation of surprise and pleasure. He twitched again, but despite the dampness between her own thighs, she moved slowly, sliding her hands up his legs to the sharp arrow of his hipbones. The taut flatness of his stomach. His breaths came fast as she deliberately skirted where he wanted her the most.

But although she could sense his impatience, knew implicitly how very much he wanted this—how much she suspected he had wanted this for some time—he made no attempt to free his eyes or move his hands. In yielding to her, he had given her his word, and she could see now he would not break it. Relief burned in her heart at the realisation. Part of her, even now, had been preparing for the inevitable moment he broke her trust. She had been guarding herself against the prospect of hurt, even as she bared herself to him.

This is my first time writing a power exchange in this direction, and I’ve found it such a fun and intriguing experience. How much HE enjoys yielding to her, and how much SHE enjoys his submission.

Keep an eye out for a final publication date. I’m tentatively hoping for September, if I can get the novel finished and edited in time. But you’ll be the first to know!

Book Recs

I have two recs for you today! The first is Christine Diane’s The Unlikely Betrothal Collection, featuring five novellas in one! There’s a lot of steam and good fun to be had here, so please do check it out. It’s ALL in KU too.

Next, check out Lizzie C Koz’s Madcap with a Marquess! This is a spicy, marriage of convenience novel and it’s definitely worth the read!

Also, look at that cover. Gorgeous! I can’t recommend Lizzie C Koz enough—she’s new on the HR scene, but she’s a fabulous writer!

That’s all from me this month. Until next time!

Kiera

Hi everyone, Kiera here!

Apologies for my absence in recent newsletters. Having been wrangling with writers’ block, managing problems with the younger generation (fostering can sometimes be overwhelming!), and refurbishing Terri’s bathroom, hehe, I’ve struggled to keep motivated.

BUT . . .

Yep, I’m racing through the final few chapters (yay!) of Celandine’s story as we speak, and news of ARC opportunities for The Lady’s Desire should be coming in the not-too-distant future.

Book Recs

I recently discovered a new-to-me author who might appeal if, like me, you enjoy a bit of mystery with your romance. The Pevensey Mysteries, by Rosanne E Lortz popped up on my radar and I’ve enjoyed whiling away a few sunny hours in the garden with the first two books in the series. Of the two, The Duke’s Last Hunt was my preferred, as I found the MMC more empathetic than in the first book.

I’m fascinated by how the author takes the storyline and characters of real, historical events and weaves these into a fictional account set in a later, but still historical period. This involves a wealth of embedded research that puts my rather superficial efforts to shame!

I’m now torn between reading the third book, A Duel for Christmas, now, or waiting until closer to that season! Perhaps I might just take a peep now . . .

Happy reading!
