Happy New Year! (And Writing Update)
Hello, my historical lovelies!
It’s officially 2024, and do you know what that means? A month of fumbling through resolutions before giving up for good and leaving it for next January.
Kidding! (Mostly.)
The beginning of a new year is a time for reflection—what has been and what will come, and what we wish to come (stop giggling) and how we’re going to make it happen.
Last year, I published two Regency novels, and I have been absolutely blown away by the love I received for To Marry the Devil. I’m so unbelievably proud of everything I’ve achieved, and I can’t wait to take everything I’ve learnt to catapult me into 2024 and the next novel.
Which, by the way, I’m knee-deep into writing. And I am having so much fun!
Without spoiling too much, we have stoic, starchy, slightly traumatised Henry, our virgin hero, and spirited, flighty, passionate Louisa, our experienced, widowed heroine. Sparks will fly, there will be forced proximity at a house party, a bit of blackmail, and Henry’s desperate love for Louisa will overcome all his self-control.
This is a second chance romance, so as we watch them find a way back to each other, we’ll jump into the past to see them fall in love for the first time—and break each other’s hearts.
Hopefully the second time will have a happier ending…
This year, I intend to write this book and Oliver’s book, and ideally also a Christmas novella involving one or more of my characters (probably in compromising positions, because who doesn’t love an impassioned quickie?). It’s going to be a five-book series, so I want to get a real headstart on writing the fifth book as well.
What are some of your resolutions?

It is my absolute delight to introduce Amber Night to you all. She is a fabulous author of interracial historical fiction, and she has two novels out. The one pictured above is her second, and the one I read first. They’re standalones, so can be read in any order.
And you should. They blew. Me. Away. The angst, the yearning, the heat (they were scorching), the top-notch quality of the writing. I think I read Beneath Soot Skies in a single sitting and then immediately made a post about it in Upturned Petticoats and Undone Cravats. If you’re part of the group, you can find that post here. I cannot stress how much I fell in love with these books. I was SO HAPPY I stumbled across them entirely by accident, and I’m shocked more people aren’t recommending them.
So go read them. Fan yourself. Fall in love with the heroes and the sassy, mouthy, endearing heroines. Marvel at the gorgeous prose. You won’t regret it.
SERIOUSLY.
I mean it.
Read them.
Next time…
That’s it from me, folks. Next time, I’ll be highlighting the members of a new Regency romance group I’m in—we’re all new authors, and it’s a great chance to come along and get to know us all.
Until then!
