I’ve been a bit quiet recently, so I wanted to give you a little life update. Unfortunately, it’s not a happy one. Last month, my little brother was in a car accident and is currently in a coma receiving end of life care.
Obviously this is tragic and distressing and has utterly thrown my life into disarray. I’ve taken time off work, have basically stopped writing altogether for the moment, and am focusing on surviving.
(I’m writing this from the hospital.)
I had SO many plans for this year in terms of books. I’ve started my new series, and I’ve got Dragonblade releases starting from the end of this month (if you’re interested, you can preorder for only $0.99). Right now, however, those plans have ground to a halt. I’m not in a place where I can write, and when I do write, I think I will want to write a bit about grief to make sense of this terrible, nonsensical thing that has happened to me.
Whether I ever publish anything like that is entirely another question.
Writing is a haven, a release, a relief, a necessity, but sometimes it is a burden. And right now, I am soul-tired—exhausted in a place rest can’t reach. I don’t have anything left to give in the form of words.
This is not a permanent thing! I am excited to return to my next series, and I have the books planned out! It’s just, right now, I can’t feel it.
Last year, life got in the way of publishing as much as I would have liked, and this year was going to make up for it. But you can’t force what isn’t there. I will take time to refill my cup (and when I get back to writing, I will have to finish my Dragonblade novels first, given those have fixed deadlines), but when I do, I assure you I am coming back.
Please don’t give up on me in the meantime. I won’t be much on social media or sending newsletters, but I will still be here!
